On this day in 2011 the Hartwick men's basketball team picked off visiting Elms College 62-49 to extend their season-opening winning streak to nine.
Mark Blazek (pictured) led the Hawks with 21 points on 7-of-14 from the field, including 4-of-7 from deep. Jared Suderley grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds and earned a double-double with 13 points as well. Chris Ryder also put up a double-double, his second in a row, with 10 points and 12 boards.
The Blazers had a five-point lead early on but 'Wick went on an 11-0 run right after and eventually led 27-23 at the break. Elms made it a 38-36 game with 9:23 remaining in the second half, but from there Hartwick ripped off a 13-0 run, thanks in part to three Blazek treys, and never looked back.
