BROCKPORT, NY – On Monday, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced their Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-Region Teams. For the 11th time in 13 seasons, the Hartwick field hockey team had at least one representative on the North Atlantic Region First or Second Team. Junior Sydney Gagnon (Chestertown, NY/North Warren Central) earned First Team status for the second time out of two possible selections in her career, while sophomore Julie Ruzzi (High Falls, NY/Rondout Valley) was named to the Second Team.
Gagnon was the Hawks' offensive MVP this season, leading 'Wick with nine goals, 20 points, 87 shots, and 46 shots on goal. She ranked among the top three in the Empire 8 in goals, shots, and game-winning goals, earning Empire 8 First Team status for the third straight season to begin her Hartwick career.
Ruzzi was important in the midfield to Hartwick's defensive effort, which ranked second in the Empire 8, as well as to their offensive attack. She was second on the team in points, one behind Gagnon at 19, and led the Hawks with seven assists. Ruzzi tied for fourth in the conference in assists, was ninth in points, and was 10th in shots.
