ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hartwick College women's soccer team played Utica University to a 0-0 draw Wednesday night at Elmore Field. Freshman
Kelsey Bollen (Wappingers Falls N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) made four saves in goal for Hartwick, including a pair in the final three minutes to preserve her third straight shutout.
Junior
Sara Moore (East Granby, Conn./University of Bridgeport) and freshman
Elizabeth Burke (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) led the Hawks with two shots apiece, while junior
Lily Dempsey (Glenville, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville),
Ella Grupe (Freehold, N.Y./Greenville) and several others also registered attempts. Burke and Moore each put one shot on goal.
Hartwick outshot the Pioneers 11-7, including 9-2 in the second half, but Utica put more shots on goal, 4-2. The host team had four corners while the visitors had just one.
The Hawks move to 1-3-3 overall and 1-1-1 in Empire 8 play, while the Pioneers are now 3-2-3 overall and 0-0-2 in conference action. Hartwick is next in action on Saturday, Sept. 26th at St. John Fisher for a 3 p.m. conference matchup.
After a relatively quiet opening half, Hartwick generated more pressure following halftime. The Hawks recorded nine of their 11 shots in the second half, including attempts from Grupe, Burke, Moore, Dempsey and
Ella Weber. Burke's shot in the 73rd minute was saved by the Utica keeper, while Moore and Grupe also recorded late attempts.
Bollen kept the game scoreless late, making consecutive saves on Utica's Samantha Ferguson and Cora Kraft in the 88th minute. Neither team found the breakthrough in the final minutes as the match ended in a scoreless draw.
Emily Duro earned the shutout making two saves in 90 minutes, while Madison Wagner was the lone Pioneer to attempt multiple shots, putting one of her two on goal.
