ONEONTA, NY – Hawks Women's soccer played against New Paltz in their first match of the Mayor's Cup, falling 3-0 to the rival Hawks.
Hartwick was held scoreless in the opening half of their first Mayor's Cup match, despite earning two corner kicks and limiting the visiting New Paltz Hawks to eight shots. Freshman goalkeeper
Kelsey Bollen (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) made two saves in the opening frame.
New Paltz broke through in the 14
th minute before adding goals in the 34
th and 44
th minutes to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Hartwick came out with increased pressure in the second half, generating all nine of their shots after the break.
Dahlia Landry (Manhattan, N.Y.) led the Hawks with four shots, including two on goal, while
Ella Grupe (Freehold, N.Y.) added three shots with two on target.
Brynn Sweeney (Flourtown, Pa.) took over in net to begin the second half, keeping New Paltz off the scoreboard with two saves. The Blue and White continued to create opportunities down the stretch, with Landry putting two shots on frame and Grupe forcing a pair of saves from the New Paltz keeper.
Hartwick will return to action tomorrow, facing Clarkson University at 12 PM for their second Mayor's Cup game of the weekend.
