WEBSTER, N.Y. – The Hartwick Hawks Men's Swimming and Diving team finished fourth overall at the Allegheny Empire Championships, and second in the Empire 8.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Sitting in the fourth overall spot entering the final day of competition, the Hawks picked up big points in their first event of the night as Nic Canney (Chandler, Ariz.) claimed bronze in the 1650-yard freestyle.
- Evan Nezat (Jacksonville, N.C.) and Sam Cole (Albany, N.Y.) picked up 31 points for Hartwick with 7th and 8th place finishes respectively in the 200-yard breaststroke.
- Mikey Schultz (Binghamton, Conn.) claimed gold in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:51. The junior would later be named the Empire 8 Swimmer of the Meet for his performance across the four days of competition.
- Jack Armstrong (Windham, N.H.) rounded out his meet with a second-place finish in the 1-meter diving event. The junior also claimed silver in the 3-meter event two days before. For those two performances, Armstrong was named the Empire 8 Diver of the Week.
- The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Schultz, Nezat, Dawson Tupponce (Phoenix, Ariz.), and Reid Sinkinson (Telford, Pa.) wrapped up competition with a 5th place finish.
- James Lukasik (Danbury, Conn.) was named the Empire 8 Men's Swimming and Diving Torchbearer Award Winner for having the highest cumulative GPA of any athlete competing in the conference championship meet to round out the individual awards for Hartwick.
